Left-hander David Huff got all the offense he needed when Columbus took a 5-0 lead in the first inning. Huff gave up only four hits and one unearned run over seven innings, striking out five without a walk.
Aaron Laffey was tagged for four runs on four hits in the eighth before Jess Todd yielded two hits but no runs in the ninth.
Columbus was without second baseman Drew Sutton, called up to the Cleveland Indians. Jason Kipnis was promoted from Double-A Akron to take his place.
