Top 100 Prospects: Nos. 66-70
66 Karexon Sanchez Born: Aug. 22, 1987 in Caracas, VZ Position: Infielder B/T: S/R HT/WT: 5-11/175 Acquired: Signed as a non-drafted free agent, March 21, 2006. Strengths: Has decent speed (80 steals in five pro seasons) and fair pop (33 homers total last three years). Always ends up with consistent mid-range numbers in field and at bat. Has cut down errors and seems destined for utility role. Weaknesses: Is learning to take a walk and cut down strikeouts, but needs more work in both areas. When he goes with the pitch, he's a decent hitter from either side of the plate. 2011 Projection: Likely to split time between Kinston and Akron, depending on each team's needs. 67 Trey Haley Born: June 21, 1990 in Nacogdoches, TX Position: Starting pitcher B/T: R/R HT/WT: 6-3/175 Acquired: Second-round pick in 2008 Draft from San Augustine (TX) Central Heights HS. Strengths: Fastball usually at 93-95 mph, with movement. Has excellent rotation on curveball and slider. Pitches have natural sink, getting desired ground balls. Scouts love his breaking pitches; cringe at his command. Weaknesses: Very raw talent needs work in many areas. Very confident – until walks mount or error is made behind him. Then he fights himself, leading to big innings. Has woeful control (158 walks, 156 strikeouts in 196 pro innings). 2011 Projection: Back for a third year at Lake County. Tribe wants to move him up, but can't unless he throws strikes. 68 Giovanny Urshela Born: Oct. 11, 1991, in Cartagena, Colombia Position: Third base B/T: R/R HT/WT: 6-0/185 Acquired: Signed as non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2008. Strengths: Extremely talented defensively. Has a great arm and step-and-dive instincts, with excellent positioning. Fine situational hitter uses the whole field. Constantly comes through in the clutch. For a 19-year-old, is very far advanced in all aspects. When he is told something, he quickly puts it into play. Weaknesses: Needs to fill out physically, Has yet to develop his power, which will come as he gets involved in strength program. Will need to continue working on his English to help with communication. 2011 Projection: Should start season at Lake County. 69 Donnie Webb Born: April 30, 1986, in Stillwater, OK Position: Outfielder B/T: B/R HT/WT: 5-11/190 Acquired: 10th-round draft in 2008 Draft from Oklahoma State. Strengths: Good outfielder with fair arm. Uses speed well in outfield and on bases (56-for-72 in steal attempts as pro). Scrappy, hard-nosed and has skills that could make him a good leadoff hitter – if he quits trying to be a middle-of-the-order guy. Weaknesses: Improved bunting skills, especially from left side, would boost weak .344 career on-base percentage. Needs better pitch recognition, patience at plate, and to cut down strikeouts. 2011 Projection: Kinston's starting centerfielder. 70 Brian Grening Born: June 10, 1985, in Newport Beach, CA Position: Relief pitcher B/T: R/R HT/WT: 5-11/200 Acquired: 38th-round pick in 2008 Draft from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Strengths: Good slider/fastball mix misses bats (179 strikeouts in 151 pro innings). Stuff plays better in relief. Weaknesses: A better offspeed pitch would help, but what he really needs is to throw more strikes, cut down walks. Leveled off in 2010 (4.00 ERA) after super 2009 (1.68 ERA). 2011 Projection: Will battle for spot in Akron bullpen, could go back to Kinston.
