Jason Stanford helped his bid for claiming a spot in the Indians rotation
Wednesday, but Cleveland lost to the Boston Red Sox 3-1 in Fort Myers, Fla.
The left-hander allowed one run and three hits over four innings, walking one
and striking out one.
Casey Blake gave Cleveland a 1-0 lead with his fourth homer of the spring, a
third-inning shot off Curt Schilling.
Schilling gave up only one other hit in six innings -- Jody Gerut's double in
the fourth. The only other Cleveland batter to reach base against Schilling was
Chris Clapinski, who got to second when left fielder Brian Daubach dropped his
fly ball for an error.
Boston's David Ortiz went 2-for-3, including his fifth homer in the sixth off
right-hander Giovanni Carrara.
Boston's other runs scored on Kevin Millar's sacrifice fly in the fourth off
Stanford and Cesar Crespo's RBI single in the seventh off rookie right-hander
Kazuhito Tadano.
