Aeros' Mulhern Drives In 5 In Playoff Tuneup

There's time for Ryan Mulhern to salvage a disappointing 2006 season. The Akron Aeros' first baseman can do it with a few performances in the playoffs similar to the one he had in the regular-season finale Monday. He drove in all of Akron's runs in a 5-2 win in 10 innings, hitting a three-run homer in the ninth and two-run double in the 10th. Buffalo and Kinston won regular-season finales, too.

Mulhern hit only .268 with 15 homers and 69 RBI in 121 games this year. That's not close to the numbers he put up a year ago on the way to winning the Lou Boudreau Award as the outstanding offensive player in the Indians' minor-league system. The 25-year--old started the 2005 season at Class A Kinston and hit .321 with 17 homers and 48 RBI in 45 games -- missing three weeks with a broken jaw... Recommended Stories
