Hot Prospects Barton, Lofgren Are Honored

Brian Barton and Chuck Lofgren, two of the Indians' hottest prospects, are gaining national recognition. Both were named to the Topps 2006 Class-A All-Star Team. Barton, an outfielder, was among Carolina League leaders in only half the season at Class A Kinston before being promoted to Double-A Akron. Lofgren, already named the league's pitcher of the year, helped the K-Tribe win the championship.

Barton, 24, who signed with Cleveland as a non-drafted free agent in 2004, reeled off a Carolina League-best 22-game hitting streak while with at Kinston this past summer. The native of Los Angeles, who attended Miami (Fla.) University, also led the league in slugging percentage (.513) and was 26 for 29 in stolen base attempts before being promoted to Akron, where he continued to produce... Recommended Stories
