2007 Player Draft: Beau Knows Baseball

The Indians went exploring the Great Northwest for talent and figure they found a potential nugget. With the 13th pick of the first round, Cleveland today drafted Beau Mills, a third baseman the organization intends to switch to first base. The son of former big-leaguer Brad Mills put up eye-popping numbers in college, but even the Indians admit that the 20-year-old comes with a bit of a gamble.

"We like him for his offensive upside," said John Mirabelli, the Indians' assistant general manager in charge of scouting. "He's a left-handed power bat with a chance to be a middle of the order guy, a run-producing bat. That upside is a commodity, especially for this market."
