2008 Spring Training Schedule

The Indians have announced the 2008 Grapefruit League schedule for the club’s 15th and final spring training in Florida. It features 15 home dates beginning with the home opener against the Houston Astros at Chain of Lakes Park in Winter Haven, Fla., on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 1:05 p.m. In 2009, the Indians will begin spring training in a new complex currently under construction in Goodyear, Ariz.

The Indians are scheduled to play a total of 32 (15 home and 17 road) spring exhibition games in 2008. The home schedule features games against the AL Central rival Detroit Tigers on March 2 and 11, the 2007 NL East champion Philadelphia Phillies on March 8, and perennial AL rival New York Yankees on March 25. A total of nine different opponents will visit Chain of Lakes Park.

The Indians will break from their spring training camp in Florida following a March 27 game against Tampa Bay in Winter Haven. They are then scheduled to play a two-game series in Atlanta against the Braves before traveling to Cleveland for the season opener at Jacobs Field on Monday, March 31 at 3 p.m. against the division rival Chicago White Sox.

All games start at 1:05 p.m. except the March 14 home game against the Washington Nationals and the March 19 game at the New York Mets. Those games are marked with two asterisks (**) and are scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m.

Those games listed in ALL CAPS means they are Indians home games; those marked (ss) indicates a split-squad game. Camp officially opens in mid-February:

Season and group ticket orders are currently being accepted while single-game tickets go on sale Dec. 15 at 10 a.m. There will be a premium price for the New York Yankees game on March 25.

There are five Winter Haven area Ticketmaster Ticket Center locations: Spec’s Music in Winter Haven and Lakeland; FYE in Lake Wales and Lakeland; Lakeland Center in Lakeland.

Spring training tickets can also be purchased in person at the Chain of Lakes Park Box Office in Winter Haven.

For those interested in checking out the Indians' minor-leaguers, farm teams begin "exhibition" play in mid-March, always against farm teams from the Atlanta, Detroit and Houston organizations. Players slated to play at Buffalo will play against Triple-A farm clubs; those likely going to Akron will be in Double-A games, while players from Kinston, Lake County, Mahoning Valley and the Gulf Coast League Indians will be used in games involving Class A opponents.

Game times are generally 1 p.m. each day, but are subject to change. It is best to check the daily schedule posted outside the minor-league complex each morning.

In Winter Haven, the Triple-A field is the one closest to the main ballpark, the Double-A field is farther to the west and the Class A fields down a slight hill.
