Jhonny Peralta delivered the go-ahead hit in extra innings for the second game in a row as the Indians defeated the Dodgers in Los Angeles, 7-2, in 11 innings Saturday. Until the 11th, C.C. Sabathia provided all of Cleveland's offense with a 440-foot home run. The lefty left with a 1-1 tie after striking out 10 over seven innings in temperatures of over 100 degrees at Dodger Stadium.
Sabathia gave up five hits and one walk. The lone blemish on an otherwise superb performance was Matt Kemp's seventh homer in the sixth inning.
Sabathia retired the first 11 Dodgers before Jeff Kent singled with two outs in the fourth. Meanwhile, the big lefty crushed a 1-0 pitch from Chan Ho Park far over the right-field wall in the third inning.
The Indians finally put it away in the 11th off rookie Cory Wade.
Jamey Carroll
singled and went to second on another single by
Ben Francisco
. After
Ryan Garko
lined out to shortstop, Peralta bounced a 2-1 pitch from Scott Proctor between third and short to score Carroll for a 2-1 lead.
Casey Blake
singled home Francisco, Shin-Soo Choo was intentionally walked and
Kelly Shoppach
hit a two-run single to make it 5-1.
Grady Sizemore
later added another RBI single and Carroll's sacrifice fly made it 7-1.
Scott Elarton
yielded a run in the bottom of the 11th.
Rafael Betancourt
,
Rafael Perez
and
Masahide Kobayashi
each pitched one scoreless inning of relief for Cleveland. Kobayashi (4-3) got the win.
Peralta (.238) went 3-for-5 while Blake (.270) and Sizemore (.267) each had two hits.
