Indians' Top Prospects: No. 28

Chuck Lofgren

For each of the past 15 years, Indians Ink Magazine has ranked the top prospects in the Cleveland farm system. It began as a top 10 list and turned into a top 50 early this decade. This is our third year ranking the top 100 Tribe minor-leaguers. It factors a player's potential, accomplishments, how he's moved in the system, and projects it to what he could bring to the major-league team.

No. 28 -- Chuck Lofgren

The Chuck Lofgren File

Jan. 29, 1986 in Redwood City, CA
Position: Pitcher
B/T: L/L
HT/WT: 6-4/215
Acquired: Fourth-round draft pick in 2004 from Junipero Serra (CA) HS.
Strengths: Throws a very heavy fastball that will top out in the mid 90s. Changeup is his most consistent pitch. Seemed to do much better once he returned to Akron and was moved to the bullpen.
Weaknesses: Had some command issues with his fastball. Needs to gain confidence that he can go out and attack hitters and get them out. Personal issues seemed to take his mind off the game, which was understandable.
2009 Projection: Will likely return to Akron to start season but Triple-A is a possibility. Recommended Stories
