Indians' Top Prospects: No. 18
No. 18 -- Carlos Rivero The Carlos Rivero File Born: May 20, 1988 in Barquisimeto, VZ Position: Shortstop B/T: R/R HT/WT: 6-3/198 Acquired: Signed as non-drafted free agent, March 30, 2005. Strengths: Similar in many ways to Jhonny Peralta in that he is a big shortstop and has the potential to develop excellent power. May have more power potential than any young hitter in organization. Natural strength. Weaknesses: Similarity to Peralta also comes in his lack of speed and quickness, factors that definitely hurt him on the base paths (two steals in three years) and possibly in the field. Made 24 errors in 108 games at Kinston. Position switch is possible although the Indians would like to keep him at shortstop. 2009 Projection: Will likely start season at Class AA Akron. 2008 & MINOR-LEAGUE CAREER Team G AB H AVG HR RBI SB BB SO Kinston 108 411 116 .282 8 64 1 36 84 Minor Totals 342 1284 343 .267 18 186 9 110 225
