For each of the past 15 years, Indians Ink Magazine has ranked the top prospects in the Cleveland farm system. It began as a top 10 list and turned into a top 50 early this decade. This is our third year ranking the top 100 Tribe minor-leaguers. It factors a player's potential, accomplishments, how he's moved in the system, and projects it to what he could bring to the major-league team.

No. 16 --
John Meloan
The John Meloan File
Born: July 11, 1984 in Houston, TX
Position: Relief Pitcher
B/T: R/R
HT/WT: 6-3/230
Acquired: July 26, 2008, from Dodgers with C Carlos Santana for 3B Casey Blake.
Strengths: Low to mid-90s fastball has excellent sink. Hard slider hits around 88 mph. Tremendous intensity. Loves to get the ball in tight, late-inning situations, which could make him a candidate to be a closer at some point, but will likely be a setup man in the meantime.
Weaknesses: Was not nearly as effective in a starting role, which is why the Indians moved him back to the bullpen. Changeup is still a work in progress.
2009 Projection: Will have a chance to win spot in major league bullpen in spring training. Otherwise he will be in similar role at Triple-A.
