Three Dozen Will Go "Extra Innings"

Three dozen players from the Indians farm system will be playing this fall and winter in various leagues. Also, two members of the team's player development system will be serving as a manager and hitting coach for Caracas in the Venezuelan Winter League. Dave Hudgens, the Tribe's minor-league field coordinator, will manage and Columbus hitting coach Jon Nunnally will serve in that capacity.
They will have with them five of the nine players from the organization slated to play in Venezuela, including first baseman-outfielder
Jordan Brown
, who won the 2009 Triple-A International League batting title with Columbus. He hit .336 and had a .532 slugging percentage, which ranked third in the league. Also heading to Caracas are right-hander
Hector Rondon
, shortstop
Carlos Rivero
, and infielders
Cristo Arnal
and
Karexon Sanchez
.
Also playing in Venezuela will be right-hander
Steven Wright
and infielder
Niuman Romero
for Caribes de Oriente; right-hander Johan Pino for Tigres de Aragua and infielder
Luis Valbuena
for Cardenales de Lara.
Going to the Dominican Republic will be infielder
Andy Marte
and outfielder
Jose Constanza
for Azucareros del Este; right-hander
Frank Herrmann
for Aguilas; left-hander
Juan Lara
for Las Estrellas Orientales; and outfielder
Lucas Montero
for Gigantes de San Francisco.
Third baseman
Giovanny Urshela
will play for Cartegna in Colombia and outfielder Roman Pena will go back to Mexico and play, though his team has yet to be determined.
Headed to Mayaguez of the Puerto Rican Winter League are right-hander
Neil Wagner
and catcher Roberto Perez.
Seventeen others will play out of the Indians' training site in Goodyear, Ariz. Seven of them will be in the Arizona Fall League: right-handers
