Indians Sign Veteran Redmond

The Indians added the veteran catcher needed to help all the team's prospective backstops of the future. Mike Redmond, a 12-year veteran including the last five seasons with the Minnesota Twins was signed as a free agent and added to the major-league roster. He'll join Lou Marson, Carlos Santana, Wyatt Toregas and Chris Gimenez as catchers at spring training seeking a job in Cleveland in 2010.

Redmond, 38, has a career batting average of .289 (636-for-2,201) with 113 doubles, 13 home runs and 238 RBI in 741 games with the Florida Marlins and Twins since 1998. He was a member of the 2003 World Series Champion Marlins and part of Minnesota's AL Central winning teams in 2006 and 2009.
