Played two years at the University of Tennessee, then transferred to Middle Tennessee. In 46 games in 2005, he hit .412 with eight homers and 31 RBI, then as a senior in 2006, he batted .377 with 15 homers and 60 RBI in 51 games. ... Began pro career for Gary (Ind.) in Independent League and hit .143 (2-for-14) in five games ... In 11 games for the Gulf Coast League Indians in 2006, he hit .217 (5-for-23) with two RBI.
