Earned all-league honors in baseball and basketball at Donegal High School in Mount Joy, Pa. ... Compiled a four-year career average of .325 in 212 games at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. Hit .369 with seven homers and 35 RBI in 57 games as a senior in 1989.
Spent most of his six-year playing career in the minors in northeast Ohio, appearing in 208 games for the Class AA Canton-Akron Indians. His best season was 1994, when he hit .272 with seven homers and 38 RBI. ... In 455 career games overall, had a .265 average with 31 homers and 207 RBI.
Has been a hitting coach for Kinston (1995), Class A Columbus (1996-97), Kinston (1998-99) and Akron (2000-03). ... Made managerial debut at short-season Mahoning Valley in 2004 and guided Scrappers to the New York-Penn League championship.
