Drafted by Oakland in the ninth round, 2007; drafted by Cleveland in the eighth round, 2008.
Went 8-4 with a 4.34 ERA as a redshirt junior at the University of Arizona in 2008. In 74 2-3 innings over 18 games including 13 starts, he gave up 70 hits and 34 walks, striking out 67. ... The left-hander missed the entire 2007 season after having elbow surgery in the spring of 2006. Before getting hurt in the second month of the 2006 season, he had a 9-6 overall record with 111 strikeouts in 99 2-3 innings in college.
