Drafted by Cleveland in the 19th round, 2008.
As a senior in 2008, he was named the Big Ten Player of the Year after leading Michigan with a .368 (77-for-209) average, a school-record 23 homers (tied for third in nation) and 68 RBI in 58 games. Drew 33 walks, struck out 30 times and was successful on five of six stolen-base attempts, becoming the first Wolverines first baseman to be named to an All-America team. ... Hit .351 in 48 games at Oakland (Mich.) University as a freshman in 2005. ... In first year at Michigan, led team with .372 average, with eight homers and 41 RBI. ... In 2007, led team with 12 homers and 61 RBI while batting .352. ... Overall in four years in college, hit .361(297-for-822) with 48 homers and 200 RBI in 239 games.
