Signed with Los Angeles Dodgers as a non-drafted free agent, 2005; traded to Cleveland Indians with RHP Jon Meloan for 3B-1B Casey Blake, 7/26/08.
Began pro career as third baseman, played some outfield, and was switched to catcher in 2007. Compiled only a .259 average over first three years as a professional, though he did hit .303 in 37 games at Class A Ogden in 2006.
Had breakout season in 2007 for Inland Empire, the Dodgers' team in the Class A California League. Hit .323 (113-for-350) with 14 homers, 88 runs and 96 RBI in 99 games at time of trade.
