C Dwight Childs: Game-winning homer

Dwight Childs Profile

Dwight Childs' first professional home run was a big one. It came leading off the 11th inning and gave the Mahoning Valley Scrappers a 7-6 win at Vermont.

Childs (.100) was drafted out of the University of Arizona in June and is considered a fine defensive catcher with plenty of work to do on offense. He entered the game as a defensive replacement in the late innings and went 1-for-2.

In only 14 games, Childs has gone 4-for-40 with three runs and five RBI. The homer was his first extra-base hit.
