Austin Adams Profile

Austin Adams earned his first save with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in a 4-2 win over Lowell.

Adams (4.94 ERA) gave up three hits and a run over two innings in his 13 appearance out of the bullpen for the Scrappers.

The hard-throwing right-hander was drafted in the fifth round by the Indians in June. A year ago, the was taken in the 27th round by the Milwaukee Brewers as a shortstop, but he returned to Faulkner College for his senior season.

Adams put up outstanding numbers at the plate his final two years in college, but caught the Indians' eye not for his .398 average and 11 homers during his junior season of 2008, but for getting 12 saves that year. Put in the starting rotation as a senior, he struggled, but the Indians intend to use his 98-mph fastball in relief.

In 27 1-3 innings in the New York-Penn League, Adams is 0-1, has allowed 27 hits and 13 walks while striking out 19. He has shown good command in home games, but not done well on the road. At home, he has walked only three, struck out 12 and has a 3.29 ERA; on the road he has 10 walks, only seven strikeouts, and a 6.59 ERA.
