C Lou Marson: Goes deep

Lou Marson Profile

Lou Marson hit a solo homer and double in Columbus' 7-6 home loss to Toledo.

Marson (.307) hit his second homer of the season and 16th double. The two hits gave him a .360 average with seven runs and seven RBI in 14 games with the Clippers.

Marson was acquired by the Cleveland Indians with three others from the Philadelphia Phillies in the trade for Cy Young winner Cliff Lee and outfielder Ben Francisco in late July.

Marson is considered big-league ready defensively. He has always displayed the ability to make good contact at the plate, but without much power. He could share the catcher's job in Cleveland next season -- depending on what moves the Indians make in the off-season. The Indians currently have three men sharing the duties. Veteran Kelly Shoppach has had a very poor year at bat with his home runs dwindling and strikeouts soaring. He seems to have lost some of his intensity behind the plate, too. Rookies Wyatt Toregas and Chris Gimenez, who also plays first, third and the outfield, have really struggled to make contact. Gimenez is in a woeful 1-for-31 slump. Toregas, who has always been considered a fine defensive catcher with offensive limitations, has done nothing to change that consensus since being called up.
