P Scott Lewis: Not good by Chuck Murr of IndiansInk.net, August 21, 2009 at 9:52am ET
Scott Lewis Profile
Scott Lewis was hit hard in a rehab start for Columbus, a 10-1 loss to visiting Toledo.
Lewis gave up four runs and five hits over two innings in his first rehab appearance at Triple-A. He walked one, struck out two, and made 55 pitches -- 33 for strikes. He told the Columbus Dispatch that he still had some soreness in his forearm but figured he had to "try and pitch through it."
Lewis' career has been sidetracked by arm injuries. He had Tommy John surgery at Ohio State. Then he missed some time and was on a strict pitch count for a couple of seasons after being drafted by the Indians in the third round in 2004. He eventually put together a couple of healthy seasons and made it to Cleveland last September, going 4-0 in four starts.
Right after Lewis earned a spot in the Indians' rotation this year, he was hit hard in spring training. He and the team said it was just that his command was off, but it is evident now that there was something wrong with his arm. He made one start for Cleveland in the home opener and has been sidelined since -- making a couple of rehab starts in May before being shut down until July.
