SS Mark Thompson: Continues surge by Chuck Murr of IndiansInk.net, August 22, 2009 at 12:58am ET
Mark Thompson Profile
Shortstop Mark Thompson had three hits including a three-run homer to lead Lake County to a 7-6 win at Delmarva.
Thompson (.247) went 3-for-3, scored three runs and hit his second homer in five games to continue a late-season surge. In his last 10 games, Thompson has batted .400 (10-for-25) with two homers, nine runs and seven RBI. In 89 games overall for the Captains, he has 12 doubles, 10 homers, 54 runs and 41 RBI, going 12-for-17 in stolen base attempts.
Thompson has shown good leadership in the infield, but is very inconsistent at the plate. For some reason, the right-hander hitter really struggles against lefties, batting only .133 with two RBI against them opposed to a respectable .286 average and 39 RBI against right-handers.
Thompson hit well during spring training, then hit only .236 with 18 RBI during the first eight weeks of the season. He batted .300 in June, then slumped to .222 in July and has picked up the pace this month to hit .276 in 19 games.
