OF Donnie Webb: Hot hitter by Chuck Murr of IndiansInk.net, August 25, 2009 at 10:46am ET
Donnie Webb Profile
Donnie Webb continued his August surge by getting three hits and driving in three runs to lead Lake County to an 8-3 win at Lakewood.
Webb (.279) went 3-for-3 with his 12th triple of the season. A 10th-round draft pick in 2008, the speedy outfielder has really picked up his game this month.
Webb hit only .218 in 51 games at Mahoning Valley a year ago and was so-so through the first four months of this season. He hit .244 in April, .306 in May, then dipped to .247 in June and .207 in July with the Captains without a great deal of run production. He has really come alive over his last 10 games, however, hitting .459 (17-for-37) with one double, one triple, two homers, five runs and 12 RBI.
Overall in 115 games, Webb leads the Captains in at-bats (444), hits (124), triples (12), stolen bases (34, in 42 attempts), strikeouts (107) and is tied with all-star second baseman Karexon Sanchez with 62 runs. Webb also has hit seven homers with 55 RBI and 37 walks along with playing well at any of the three outfield spots.
The switch-hitter will turn 24 next April and needs to have another season similar to this one at a higher level to get consideration as a big-league prospect. He's got the speed and fielding ability. He'll need to display consistency at the plate, cut down his strikeouts, and draw a few more walks to advance.
