Lonnie Chisenhall Profile
Lonnie Chisenhall two home runs to help the Akron Aeros clinch a playoff berth with an 11-5 win at Bowie.
Akron (80-51) clinched its fifth straight trip to the post-season and became the first team in Eastern League history (dating to 1923) to record five straight 80-win seasons, breaking a tie with the 1976-79 West Haven Yankees.
Chisenhall had struggled since being promoted earlier in the month from Class A Kinston. The third baseman, moved over from shortstop this year in his second season since being the Indians' No. 1 draft pick in 2008, hit .276 with 26 doubles, 18 homers and 79 RBI in 99 games for the K-Tribe.
In the Aeros' clincher, he went 2-for-3 with two walks, two solo homers and three RBI to lift his average to .186 (11-for-59) Jerad Head (.280), Beau Mills (.263), and Jose Constanza (.277) all had three hits. Head went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI; Mills was 3-for-5 with a walk, double, two runs and RBI; and Constanza 3-for-5 with a walk, RBI and four runs, tying his season high.
Josh Tomlin (13-9, 4.30 ERA) allowed one earned run and three hits over five innings and got the win. The right-hander walked two and struck out seven.
The Aeros return home tonight to host the Binghamton Mets in the
opener of a four-game series starting at 7:05 p.m. Scott Barnes (1-1, 7.36 ERA) will start for Akron in a battle of left-handers against Eric Niesen (2-6, 5.60 ERA). There will be a fireworks show after the game at Canal Park.
