Doug Pickens went 4-for-4 with an RBI to help Kinston to a 5-2 win over visiting Frederick.

Pickens (.287) had four singles to continue an August surge. In his last 10 games, the 24-year-old catcher has hit .378 (14-for-37) with three doubles, three runs and six RBI. Overall in 42 games since being promoted from Lake County, he has four homers and 22 RBI.

Pickens, picked in the last round (50) of the 2007 draft, has hit .263 with four homers and 24 RBI in 50 games overall this year. He spent the first two months of the season working with young pitchers in extended spring training.

Four pitchers combined on Kinston's win. Alexander Perez (3.07 ERA) fanned five over 3 2-3 innings, allowing two walks, two hits and one run. Bryce Stowell (4-6, 5.40 ERA) then struck out four over 3 1-3 innings to get the win, allowing only one hit. Santos Frias (4.32 ERA) gave up two hits, a walk and a run over one inning and Kyle Landis (3.08 ERA) struck out two and yielded one hit in the ninth, earning his seventh save.

Drafted by Cleveland in the 50th round, 2007.

Did not play professionally in 2007; split 2008 season between three teams in the Indians' system. Hit .235 with one homer and 18 RBI in 47 games at Low-A Lake County; hit .226 with one homer and seven RBI in 24 games at High-A Kinston; went 1-for-4 in one game at Double-A Akron. ... overall, hit .232 with 10 doubles, two homers and 25 RBI in 72 games.
