Marty Popham Profile

Marty Popham pitched five innings and Antwonie Hubbard worked four more to combine on a six-hitter as Mahoning Valley shut out visiting Batavia, 3-0.

Ben Carlson (.227) went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI to lead the Scrappers' offense.

Popham (6-1, 2.61 ERA) struck out five and allowed four hits and one walk. The 22-year-old right-hander has been particularly sharp over his past 10 starts, going 5-1 with a 2.72 ERA. Though he has allowed 58 hits in 53 innings over that span, he has given up only seven walks and struck out 64.

Hubbard (2.31 ERA) continues to impress out of the Scrappers' bullpen. He fanned five without a walk, yielding two hits over his four innings.

Drafted in June out of Oklahoma, he gave up one run in one inning in his only outing in the Arizona League and has done well with the Scrappers. In 12 relief appearances covering 23 1-3 innings, the 6-foot-3, 250-pound right-hander is 1-0 with one save. Hubbard, who turned 21 on July 30, has walked 10, struck out 21 and allowed 16 hits.
