OF Michael Brantley: Three more steals by Chuck Murr of IndiansInk.net, August 31, 2009 at 10:48pm ET
Michael Brantley Profile
Michael Brantley got three stolen bases, but scored only once for Columbus in a 7-5 loss to Louisville.
Brantley (.267) went 1-for-4 with a walk. He has been successful on 46 of 51 steal attempts in 116 games this season.
Brantley's steals in the loss to Louisville should be viewed in context, however. The Clippers' Niuman Romero, Lou Marson and Jordan Brown got their seventh, fourth and second steals, respectively. It was apparent that the Louisville pitchers and catcher are not very adept at shutting down the running game and Columbus manager Torey Lovullo used the weapon to try and generate some offense.
Neverthless, the outfielder has had a solid first season in Triple-A at age 22, scoring 80 runs with 21 doubles, two triples, six homers and 37 RBI. Most impressive is his .350 on-base percentage and good walks-to-strikeouts ratio. He was drawn 58 walks and fanned 47 times.
In nine games since returning from a sprained ankle that sidelined him for eight days, Brantley has hit .351 with three doubles, a triple, homer, five runs, six RBI and seven steals.
