Ronald Rivas Profile
Ronald Rivas drove in two runs with a double and triple to help Kinston to a 9-3 win at Potomac.
Rivas (.253) has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games, going 14-for-41 (.341) with 10 runs and seven RBI. One of the normally light-hitting shortstop's problems at the plate has continued during the surge, however as he has also struck out 10 times without drawing a walk.
Rivas has showed some improvement at the plate in his fourth pro season at only age 21, but he's got a lot mork work to do.
The Indians organization has always loved his glovework. If Rivas can simply make consistent contact at bat, learn to move runners ahead, and not strike out so much, he's a viable big-league prospect.
In 286 minor-league games, Rivas has hit only two homers (none this year in 114 games) and his 18 doubles this season give him a career total of 43.
Ole Sheldon (.269) and Adam Davis (.226) each had two hits and Lucas Montero (.258) went 3-for-5 in the win.
Paolo Espino (9-6, 2.59 ERA) allowed two runs over five innings and got the win.
