SP Trey Haley: Working on command by Chuck Murr of IndiansInk.net, October 5, 2009 at 10:12pm ET
Trey Haley Profile
Trey Haley, who struggled with his command all season at Class A Lake County, is working on it in the Arizona Instructional League.
The right-hander, Cleveland's second-round pick a year ago out of high school, worked two innings in an 8-1 loss to a team of Los Angeles Dodgers prospects this past weekend. Haley's fastball was timed at 95 mph and he averaged 93 for his 42 pitches overall. He gave up four runs on three hits and two walks, striking out two.
Haley, who turned 19 years old in June, went 4-8 with a 5.56 ERA in 19 games including 16 starts this summer at Lake County. He gave up 70 hits in 77 2-3 innings, striking out 57, but also had an alarming 65 walks.
The Indians have a lot invested in the 6-3, 180-pounder, but it is evident it is going to be awhile before Haley is consistent enough to be considered a top-tier prospect. The raw talent is there, but there's a lot of work to be done.
