Austin Adams Profile

Austin Adams was clocked at 96 mph and averaged 94 mph during a brief relief appearance for the Indians in the Arizona Instructional League.

The converted shortstop made first-pitch strikes to all three batters he faced and got two strikeouts.

The right-hander had a decent debut season with Mahoning Valley after being drafted in the fifth round by Cleveland in June. In 17 appearances out of the bullpen, the 5-11, 185-pound right-hander went 3-1 with one save and a 4.86 ERA. In 37 innings, he allowed 39 hits, 15 walks and struck out 29.

Adams didn't come from a big-time program, being drafted out of Faulkner College in Alabama. He pitched only part-time there, as he was a .300-hitting shortstop with some pop. But the Indians love his fastball and believe with proper instruction, Adams could develop into a reliever capable of work in the back end of a bullpen.
