Kelvin De La Cruz made 73 pitches and hit 91 mph on the radar gun. That was good news for the Indians' Arizona Instructional League team.

De La Cruz gave up three runs on three hits and a walk over 3 1-3 innings, striking out five, in a 5-1 loss to Peoria of the Arizona Fall League.

The lanky lefty made first-pitch strikes to seven of 16 batters and averaged 89 mph on his pitches.

He opened 2009 as one of the organization's brightest pitching prospects, but missed most of the season with an elbow injury. The 21-year-old had a 21-15 record with 263 strikeouts in 275 1-3 innings entering 2009.

He went 2-0 record in two starts in April, allowing six hits and two runs over 12 innings with 19 strikeouts and only two walks at Class A Kinston before getting hurt.

He spent three months rehabbing, then worked in three games for the Indians' team in the Arizona League, going 0-2 with a 9.39 ERA. The outing Monday was his longest since April.
