P Rob Bryson: Two good innings by Chuck Murr of IndiansInk.net, October 15, 2009 at 9:37am ET
Rob Bryson Profile
Rob Bryson pitched two hitless innings in an Arizona Instructional League contest -- good news for the Indians.
Bryson gave up one hit and one walk, striking out two and threw 30 pitches as he continues to rehab.
Bryson missed most of the 2009 season after having surgery on his right shoulder a year ago. He was one of four players acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers in July 2008 for CC Sabathia, but got injured shortly after joining the Cleveland organization. Now, with the key player in that trade, Matt LaPorta, out four to six months after having surgery on both his left hip and left big toe, a comeback by Bryson would be particularly welcome.
Bryson will turn 22 in December and if healthy, will resume his career next year, most likely at Class A Kinston.
In his first pro season in 2007, he struck out 70 and walked only 12 in 54 innings while going 3-0 with eight saves and a 2.67 ERA in short-season ball in the Brewers system.
He began the 2008 season at Class A West Virginia and went 3-2 with five saves and 4.25 ERA before the trade. In 55 innings, he fanned 73. Then in three games for Lake County, he struck out 11 over 12 1-3 innings, going 0-1 with a 2.19 ERA before getting injured.
Bryson came back this past August to work three innings for the Indians' team in the Arizona League. He gave up four earned runs, four hits and two walks, striking out five.
