Carlos Rivero: one hit, one RBI by Chuck Murr of IndiansInk.net, October 16, 2009 at 11:03am ET
Carlos Rivero Profile
Carlos Rivero doubled and drove in a run, but it was not nearly enough for the Peoria Saguaros in a 17-9 loss to the Peoria Javelinas in an Arizona Fall League game.
Rivero, normally a shortstop, played third base and started one double play. He also had a walk, run and strikeout. He's 2-for-6 in two games.
Rivero had a so-so season at Double-A Akron, but he's been in the Cleveland system for so long that fans forget he's reached that advanced level at only age 21. In 132 games for the Aeros, he hit .242 with seven homers and 58 RBI.
Rivero's teammate at Akron, Matt McBride, went 1-for-4 with a walk and two RBI for Peoria as the catcher. McBride was drafted as a catcher, but switched to the outfield and first base after having shoulder surgery two years ago.
If McBride can still throw out runners without damaging his arm or affecting his swing, he could be a very valuable player in the future. He's an accomplished power hitter (.287, 18 homers, 99 RBI this year combined at Kinston and Akron) who would be able to play three positions.
